As the year has started and is moving along quickly, ASIS ACT in conjunction with AIPIO will be holding their first planned event for the year. The topic will be “An introduction to Eavesdropping Detection & Prevention” a technical security presentation given by Michael Dever a security risk management adviser and engineer specializing in this field. Michael's extensive experience in this area will serve as a very informative and educational 40 minutes for all those in the security industry. Further details of the presentation and of Michaels background can be overviewed in the attached document. Event Details: When: Friday 26th February Where: Schneider Electric Conference Room Level 1, 5 Geelong St, Fyshwick Time: 3.00pm for 3.30pm to 5.00pm Cost: Free to ASIS and associated organisation members AIPIO, RMIA, AIPI and ISACA. Non- members $10.00 – payment received at the door, cash only - a receipt will be issued on payment Parking: Plenty of free parking in street and carpark behind building RSVP: Wednesday 24th ASIS-ACT@tpg.com.au Light Friday afternoon refreshments will be supplied. ASIS ACT chapter will also be hold a very short SGM general meeting at 3.10 to present the years financial details. ASIS members are requested to attend this quick meeting before Mikes presentation. The combined ASIS and AIPIO’s events calendar has been finalised for the year and will be distributed in the next week or so. This year will see some very informative and educational presentations and visits, including some dedicated to members with others inclusive of non-members. In 2010 the National Security Institute at the University of Canberra will conduct a monthly National The Inaugural Lecture and Series Opening will be presented by Duncan Lewis, AO, DSC, CSC, National Security Adviser. Mr Duncan Lewis left the Regular Army in 2005 as a Major General commanding Australian Special Forces. On leaving the Regular Army Mr Lewis was appointed to the position of First Assistant Secretary of the National Security Division in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, and in October 2005 was appointed to the position of Deputy Secretary in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. On 4 December 2008, Mr Lewis was appointed as the National Security Adviser. In his current appointment, he provides direct advice to the Prime Minister on all policy matters relating to the security of the nation, is responsible for the strategic leadership of the national security community as well as the coordination of national security policy development and crisis response.
